I’ve just come back from two gorgeous weeks in one of my favourite places in the world - Provence, France.
Mozzy bites aside, it was absolutely perfect. I just love the relaxed French lifestyle, with the coffee and croissant start to the day, the two hour lunch breaks complete with a carafe of wine, and the gorgeous, leisurely evening meal.
My days were spent unwinding—reading a great crime thriller or five, lounging by the pool, and generally soaking up the sunshine, and the peace and calm of my surroundings. Bliss!
As all business owners know, taking a holiday like this is more than just a break; it’s essential for so many reasons.
Firstly, it allows you to step back and gain perspective. When you’re caught up in the day-to-day of your business, it’s easy to lose sight of the big picture. Time away can help you see things more clearly, making it easier to make the big decisions when you get back.
Secondly, holidays are crucial for your mental health. We all know that running a business is demanding and can be stressful, so a change of scenery and pace will rejuvenate your mind, reduce or even remove any stress, and improve your overall well-being. It’s amazing how refreshing a few days of relaxation can be.
It’s also true that you taking a holiday sets a positive example for your team. It shows them that you recognise that there is life beyond work, that you value work-life balance and that it’s important for everyone to take time off to recharge. This can lead to a more motivated and productive team, as they’ll feel encouraged to take care of their own well-being too.
Lastly, a holiday will often spark creativity. New experiences and environments inspire fresh ideas and innovative solutions to your business challenges. Some of the best ideas you have will have, appear when you’re not actively thinking about work.
As always in Provence, I was able to switch off completely, and I returned home, not just refreshed, but with a renewed energy and sense of purpose – raring to go again!
Where’s your holiday happy place?
