Hiring is hard? Here’s how to make it easier

It seems like everywhere I turn these days, I hear the same story: business owners struggling to find the right people for their team.

I know that many believe it’s a candidate’s market, many more believe there are just no ‘right’ people out there, while others are convinced that they need to throw more money at the job to get the position filled.

What few business owners recognise is that a big part of their problem, is their attitude to hiring – seeing it as a chore, delegating it to a team member or recruiting agency, joining the beige soup of job ad listings on Indeed—bland, uninspiring, and easily overlooked.

Imagine scrolling through page after page of job ads that all look and sound the same. “Seeking motivated self-starter,” “Must be a team player,” “Competitive salary.” Yawn. These generic descriptions do nothing to stand out from the crowd, and the place they’re being posted is where ‘everyone’ posts, and where ‘everyone’ goes to look for a job. You might get lucky, if you’re prepared to wade through a hundred CVs and interview a dozen possibles…but it’s definitely a slog.

So how about changing things up, doing things differently, getting creative and thinking like a marketeer?

Think how you market your products and services – the time effort and money you put into getting it right; to make them stand out from the crowd How creative you can be in attracting the right people to buy from you and how careful you are to place your ads where you know your ideal customers hang out.

What if… you were that creative, that thoughtful, that careful with your job ads – marketing to your ideal team members to attract only the right people to you?

What if you wrote an inspiring job ad that really sold your business and the role?

What if you got creative about where you posted, so you attracted people who may be already in another job, but love the idea of joining your team?

Think about it!

Because being different – doing things differently – can make all the difference in the world to your hiring success.
